Then Versus Now: Doll School!

Here's a little review on the differences of the old and new versions of the AG Doll School craft kit.

The Old Version vs New...

In Both...

1. The older version simply came with a paper locker door you had to tape onto a door. The new one has a locker you put together, made out of a thick paper. I plan to put cardboard on the shelf piece in hopes of it lasting longer.

2. They both had mini pictures of dolls, but the new version's are much more colorful. Same goes for the Photo tip sheet.

3. The older version came with lots of award certificates (Good Attitude, Perfect Penmanship, Birthday Star, Super Speller, Outstanding Reader and Math Smarts), the new version only has one for math.

4. The older version's crayon box was quite big and had "paper crayons" . The new version's is more to scale and just a box.

5. The older version came with Hall Pass, Library and Lunch Cards. The new version only has library cards.

6. The old version required you to make books from paper covered cardboard rectangles and add sticker title labels - the new one actually comes with realistic book covers.

7. Both come with multiplication flash cards, the old ones white & green, new ones purple.

8. Older version comes with one notebook, new has two.

9. Older version has 6 file-cabinet style folders with labels. New version has one normal folder.

10. Milk cartons seem to be the same in both.

11. World Map in old version is black and white and lists landmarks to label. New one is colorful and has star stickers to put on it.
12. Both have ideas for a goldfish bowl/tank, only the old one has "fish" stickers for it though.

Final Thoughts

I definitely like them both equally. The new one does have some better stuff than the old, but the doll sized worksheets and teachers book in the old one would've been cute in the new version.

I definitely suggest, with either version, definitely make copies of anything that may be written on that you'll want plenty of in case they get messed up. I also suggest using a pencil, no pen, so they can be reused often. You can trace around certain things to make templates too, such as the folder.

Lily Reviews: Our Generation Set: Oh La La Glam!

Here's the review of the Oh La La Glam set. It's one of the smaller $6.99 sets.

It comes with a pink handbag, pink sunglasses (which look more like glasses than sunglasses to me), three doll size nail polish bottles (gold, dark pink, and light pink), two makeup brushes (sadly, plastic, not realistic bristles!), and a nail file (gold on one side and pink hearts on the other)

Set is nice so far... except the Human dropped one of the nail polish bottles and the colored plastic piece popped out.

I'll be doing a post on what's new from Our Generation next, along with a Doll School Photostory series!

Top DIY Picks: Back2School!

Another update...

We've been a little behind lately! I'd planned for a 4th of July post, Friends Day, and plenty more!

I'm considering challenging myself to do a recap...
Basically one post for every holiday I've missed that I wanted to do, to catch up.

In the meantime, I'll also do some craft kit reviews.
I've gotten almost all the American Girl Doll Craft Kits except Doll Decades and Doll Fashion Studio (At least until a new one comes!)

I've been eyeing the Design-Your-Own feature on their website to create the Doll T-shirts... $14 isn't bad, right? (Not including shipping of course!) I've been playing around with it to decide which ones I like best. I think Ellie would adore a Blaire themed shirt (Pleasant View Farms... Bee Yourself... Dream It, Plan It, Do It... Beautiful Inside and Out all seem like ones she'd wear!) I'd do a nice pale pink, purple, or blue for fabric... (yellow for Bee Yourself though!)
Although matching Best Friends jersey style ones would be fun too... (Of course, I'd have to bedazzle Ellie's for her!)

The Sports theme has a couple they'd like too...

Maybe in the fall I'll consider it...

I plan on getting a sewing machine soon too, so some handmade clothes will be in the works for them soon! I saw some fabric that looked like something Blaire would go for. Ellie's favorite AG characters are Felicity, Tenney, Isabella, Grace and Blaire. Lily likes McKenna, Molly, Gabriela and Luciana.

An update and late news

So sorry I didn't do anything big for National Pet Day and Zoo Lovers Day... the Human wasn't feeling well.

However...

For Zoo Lovers Day, Ellie was going to start up another column, something to do with the zoo and animal facts, but she's not sure of a name yet!

Lily's reviews will come soon, no worries!

Hopefully we'll have some DIYs or a decent update this coming week!

April Update

Hey everyone! So sorry we didn't post anything in March... time flies!

We just recently started on our Blaire Wilson inspired restaurant. Ellie is super excited! (She could easily be Blaire's secret twin sister!)

We're decorating it using the fun stuff in the Farm to Feast Craft Kit by American Girl ! So here's what's coming in April!

- Lily Reviews: Farm to Feast Craft Kit, Art Studio, Explore with Lea by American Girl; The Bed Table Set, The Well Traveled Luggage Set by Our Generation.
- Our first Lily and Ellie "Trip". We'll show what Lily and Ellie will pack, and will hopefully introduce a new friend to the team! However, she doesn't live close to us, so you won't see her here often (if she accepts!) 😂

Lily Reviews: Barn Dance & BBQ Set

Here's our review of the Our Generation Barn Dance & BBQ Set. Its been out a while I think so I was surprised to find it! -The Human

First I have a picture of it in it's packaging. It comes with: A BBQ grill; 2 plates; 3 corn on the cob; 2 hotdogs with buns; a basket of chicken; 2 bottles of soda; tongs; A horseshoe game; harmonica; poster; and a bandanna.

Next we have everything out of the package. The grill is super easy to put together - you just have to put the legs on it.

Here's the hot dog buns on the plates, all prepared while the...

...Hot dogs and corn are on the BBQ!

You can easily slide the hot dogs in and out of the buns. They can even be with (on the left) or without mustard (on the right)!

Here's a look at the bottle of soda. Do you think it's Coca-Cola or Pepsi?

I'm not entirely pleased with the basket of chicken. I don't like how the chicken isn't removable, and feel like the paper used will rip easily.

I decided to do a size comparison of the plates. The Our Generation plate (left) is much smaller than the American Girl plate (right)

A look at the inside of the BBQ. It's clearly a charcoal grill.

This is the "fun stuff" that comes with it: The poster, bandanna, horseshoe game and harmonica!

A closeup of the poster. It says Annual Country & Western BBQ at the OG Stables, then lists the time, date, price, and other stuff. Plus it's two-sided: One side English and the other French.

This is the horseshoe game. You basically throw the horseshoes and try to get then on the pole, like a challenging ring toss.

My final ratings: (1★ = bad 5★ = good)

Difficulty (Putting together) - ★★★★★ not hard to assemble.

Quality - ★★★★ - It's great, but I'm sure the paper on the chicken will be ripped in the next few months...

Fun play -wise - ★★★★★ It'll be lots of fun to host a BBQ.
